Leadership and Vision – Background Information / Documents

Continuous Improvement:
- The Akron School District utilizes a variety of processes to utilize stakeholders in processes for continuous improvement. One being the S-CAP review cycles. Additionally the Board of Education has processes in place where we hold two retreats a year to review S-CAP results and set goals for both the superintendent and district. The District Accountability has school wide and community representation, meeting 5 times a year, with the District’s priorities driving their work. At the school level, committees are utilized for staff to be involved in decision making processes. The leadership team allows for feedback and data to drive their long-term and annual goals.

Communication:
- Multiple sources of communication are used to keep our families informed. The district sends out a weekly newsletter, which is comprehensive and includes upcoming events, as well as highlights events from the past week. The district also uses Facebook to help remind parents of events and to showcase celebrations. Lastly, the elementary school also uses Dojo to communicate with their families. Text and email messages are also sent out to our families for information that needs to be shared out quickly.

Staff and teacher turnover:
For the most part staff and teacher retention is strong; however, this past year we added several new staff, due to retirements and relocations. New staff are supported with a new teacher orientation and a mentor to help guide them throughout the year. Our NEBOCES also has programs in place to support new staff beginning their adventure as teachers. These programs are taken advantage of by our district.
